Privacy Policy — AstroNav
Timespace Atlas built AstroNav with a simple principle: your data stays on your device. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information.
What data the app uses
Location
AstroNav uses your location to calculate accurate sunrise and sunset times, moon phases, and planet positions for your sky. Location is used only on your device — it is never sent to us.
You have three options:
- GPS location — grant location permission for automatic positioning.
- Approximate location — grant coarse location for a less precise fix.
- Manual entry — type any city or coordinates. No GPS is used at all.
Step count (optional)
If you enable the step counter in Settings, the app reads your daily step total from your device's sensors or Health Connect. This data never leaves your device.
Your preferences
Settings such as your chosen location, display options, and units are saved locally on your device. Nothing is synced to a server.
Network requests
The app makes a small number of network requests, all over HTTPS:
Weather forecasts — if you enable weather, your coordinates are sent to a weather provider (Google Maps Platform Weather API) to retrieve a forecast. No account, name, or device identifier is included. Disable weather in Settings to stop these requests.
Crash reports — if the app crashes, an anonymous diagnostic report is sent to Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the bug. Reports include the stack trace, the device model and Android version, and the AstroNav version. They do not include your location, your preferences, account identifiers, or any data you have entered into the app. Crashlytics is operated by Google under their privacy policy.
Anonymous usage data — opt-in only — if you turn on Settings → Privacy → Send anonymous usage data, AstroNav reports which screens and features you use to Google Firebase Analytics. This is off by default. No location, account, or device identifier is attached, and turning it back off stops all events immediately. You never have to enable it for the app to work.
What we do not do
- No advertising SDKs and no in-app ads
- No user accounts or sign-in
- No cloud sync or backup of your preferences or location
- No data sold or shared with third parties beyond the Crashlytics and Analytics services described above
- No tracking across apps or websites
Your controls
- Turn off weather: Settings → Weather → set provider to "NONE". No weather requests are made.
- Turn off usage data: Settings → Privacy → Send anonymous usage data (off by default). No analytics events are sent.
- Use manual location: Settings → Location → enter a city or coordinates.
- Revoke permissions: via your device's system Settings → Apps → AstroNav → Permissions.
- Uninstall: removes all local app data. No server-side data exists to delete.
Note: crash reports are always sent because they are necessary to keep the app stable and contain only anonymous diagnostic data. If you do not want any reports sent, uninstalling the app is the way to opt out.
Children
AstroNav is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be noted in the app before they take effect. This policy was last updated on 2026-05-19.
